At PawsĀ WithĀ AĀ Cause, every dog has a purpose—and for our Visiting PAWS dogs, that purpose is simple but powerful: to show up, connect, and bring comfort whenĀ it’sĀ needed most.Ā

OurĀ Visiting PAWSĀ program began with a single team and a simple idea:Ā a well-trained, compassionate dog could make a meaningful difference in everyday spaces.Ā

Today, that idea has grown into a network of dedicated handlers and incredible dogs who visit hospitals, schools, counseling centers, workplaces, and more, sharing moments of calm, joy, and connection across our community.Ā

Ā

Meet Dave & PAISLEY Ā  Ā Man smiling with a service dog in a white shirt, indoors, with a positive and friendly atmosphere.

Dave says that PAISLEY has a gift. With her calm demeanor and intuitive nature, she seems to know exactly who needs her most. During visits, she moves slowly through a room, stopping to greet each person—often lingering just a little longer with someone who needs extra support.Ā Ā

She happily leans in for pets, rests her head in laps, and welcomes hugs—sometimes from several people at once, especially when kids are involved.Ā

But what stands out most is PAISLEY’s ability to read a room and respond in ways that feel almost instinctive. Dave recalls one particularly powerful moment during a group session.Ā

Ā

A Meaningful Moment Therapy dogs engaging with people in a community setting, offering comfort and companionship.

A participant entered the room visibly upset. As the group settled, PAISLEY quietly left the circle of people already petting her and made her way over. Without prompting, she rested her chin gently on the person’s leg.Ā

What followed was a visible shift. The individual’s breathing slowed, their posture softened, and as the session continued, the weight they carried seemed to lift.Ā Ā

For Dave, it was a powerful reminder that sometimes the most meaningful supportĀ doesn’tĀ require words—just four legs and a tail.Ā

As Dave puts it, ā€œIt is extremely rewarding to witness the peace and happiness PAISLEY brings to every visit… my heart is filled with gratitude that I am privileged to be a small part of this remarkable mission.ā€Ā

Ā

Meet Deann & GLORY Golden Retriever smiling outdoors on grass, enjoying a walk with owner on a sunny day.

Deann & GLORY, another VPD team, have seen a similarly meaningful impact. Whether visiting patients during activity therapy sessions or supporting students in a classroom, GLORY brings a steady, comforting presence.Ā Ā

She hasĀ a special wayĀ of returning to individuals who need her most—offering quiet companionship during difficult moments.Ā

During one visit, GLORY repeatedly sought out the same patient. Reflecting on the moment, Deann shared, ā€œI explained that GLORY can tell when someone needs an extra hug. The patient started crying and shared that her cousin had passed away earlier that morning. GLORY tends to find the patient who really needs her each time.ā€Ā

When the patient shared their grief, it became clear: GLORY had already understood. Her presence created space for emotion, connection, and healing.Ā

Beyond clinical settings, GLORY has also helped young students build confidence by ā€œlisteningā€ as they read—offering encouragement without judgment—and brings joy to her church community each week with her gentle affection.Ā

The Heart of Visiting PAWS: Comfort, Connection, and Community Woman with service dog meets another woman in wheelchair at store entrance.

These teams—and many others—are what make Visiting PAWS so special. Behind every visit is a dedicated volunteer handler and a dog uniquely suited for this work, creating meaningful interactions that leave lasting impressions.Ā

And the best part? These visitsĀ aren’tĀ limited to healthcare or educational settings.Ā

Visiting PAWS teams are available to local businesses, offices, and organizations looking to support employee wellness, boost morale, or simply bring a moment of joy into the workday.Ā Ā

WhetherĀ it’sĀ a high-stress season, a team appreciation event, or just because, a visit from a PAWS team can transform the atmosphere in ways that are both immediate and lasting.Ā

IfĀ you’reĀ interested in bringing a Visiting PAWS team to your organization, we invite you toĀ connect with us.Ā Ā

Because sometimes, the smallest moments—a quiet nudge, a warm presence, a wagging tail—can make the biggest difference.Ā
