Hi friends,

It’s me, DUNCAN. And I’ve got something important to share.

Lately, I’ve been hearing words like “next up”, “big step,” and “he’s ready.” At first, I thought it meant extra treats (which, to be fair, I deserve). But it turns out… it means something even bigger.

My time with Ashley—my person, my teacher, my best friend—is coming to a close.

Before I go, I wanted to tell you a little about what this time has meant to me.

From Wiggly Puppy to (Mostly) Professional

When I first met Ashley, I was just a small, wiggly puppy with oversized paws and very strong opinions about treats. I didn’t know how to sit still, walk nicely on a leash, or resist the siren’s call of every leaf, squirrel, and friendly stranger.

Ashley did.

She showed me how to be brave in new places.
How to be calm when the world feels exciting.
How to listen, even when I really want to chase something.
And most importantly, how to trust and how to love.

We went everywhere together. I learned about elevators, busy sidewalks, quiet (and sometimes loud) offices, busy events, and all the in-between moments where being a “good boy” really matters. I learned that my job isn’t just to exist (though I am very good at that)—it’s to prepare for something bigger than myself.

And Ashley… she believed I could do it the whole time.

But here’s the thing about being a PAWS dog: This was never the destination. This was only the beginning.

Soon, I’ll be heading to the prison partnership program, where I’ll learn even more—next-level skills, a stronger focus, and everything I need to become the dog someone is waiting for.

I’ve heard there will be new handlers, new routines, and new challenges. And if I’m being honest… I’m a little nervous.

But I’m also ready, because of Ashley.

Because of every early morning, every training session, every “leave it” and “good boy,” every moment she chose patience and love to help me grow.

She didn’t just raise a puppy. She helped shape my purpose.

I’m Ready for What’s Next

She was my first chapter. And she will be a part of every chapter that comes next.

As for me? I’m heading into this next step with a wagging tail, a strong “sit,” and a whole lot of heart.

Because somewhere out there…
My person is waiting.

And I can’t wait to meet them.

Wish me luck!

Puppy Love,
DUNCAN
